Aviation Commissioner Inspects Obudu Int’l Cargo/Passenger Airport, Reaffirms Govt’s Commitment to Completion

The Cross River State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Obudu International Cargo and Passenger Airport as the Commissioner for Aviation, Capt. Eno Inah (Rtd), led a management team on an inspection tour of the ongoing construction project.

The inspection featured a detailed assessment of critical components of the project, including the runway, terminal building, control tower, access road and cargo handling facilities. The exercise was aimed at evaluating the progress of work and identifying on-site challenges to ensure the project remains on schedule.

Speaking during the visit, Capt. Inah expressed satisfaction with the level of work completed so far and commended the contractors for maintaining quality standards.

“What we are seeing here today is a testament to the unwavering commitment of His Excellency, Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, to transform Cross River State into a hub for tourism, commerce and international connectivity,” the commissioner said.

He noted that the airport project represents a strategic investment capable of stimulating economic growth and unlocking opportunities in the northern part of the state.

“The Obudu International Airport is not just an infrastructure project; it is a gateway that will unlock immense economic potential for the northern part of our state and beyond,” he added.

Capt. Inah further assured residents and stakeholders of the government’s determination to ensure the successful completion of the project.

“We are fully aware of the expectations of our people and the strategic importance of this airport. I want to assure everyone that no effort will be spared. We are working round the clock and deploying all necessary resources to ensure this world-class facility is delivered as planned,” he said.

When completed, the Obudu International Cargo/Passenger Airport is expected to significantly enhance the state’s tourism profile by providing direct air access to the renowned Obudu Mountain Resort and the surrounding agro-industrial belt.

The airport is also expected to facilitate the export of agricultural produce, attract cargo operations and create employment opportunities for residents of the area.

During the inspection, the Project Manager of CIBA Construction Company, Engr. Isaac Okiemute, conducted the commissioner and his team around the site and briefed them on the current phase of construction.

He highlighted progress in earthworks, drainage systems and foundational structures for key airport facilities, while reaffirming the company’s commitment to delivering the project in line with approved specifications and quality standards.

Engr. Okiemute also noted that challenges such as gully erosion and the expansion of a nearby lake are being addressed with appropriate engineering solutions.

The Cross River State Government has consistently emphasized that ongoing projects inherited from previous administrations will receive priority attention, with the Obudu airport project identified as one of the key infrastructure developments being fast-tracked.

Observers say the inspection reflects the Governor Otu administration’s hands-on approach and its determination to deliver landmark infrastructure capable of driving economic growth, tourism development and improved connectivity across the state.
