The Cross River State Carnival Commission has announced October 18 as the date for the first dry run of Carnival Calabar 2026, with the exercise scheduled to commence at 1:30 p.m. from Millennium Park, Calabar.
The Chairman of the Commission, Sir Gabe Onah, said the dry run forms part of preparations for the 2026 edition of the world-renowned festival, which is themed “Rethinking Our Collective Destiny.”
According to the Commission, the first dry run will offer carnival lovers and residents an opportunity to experience the excitement, creativity, music, dance and entertainment associated with the annual festival.
The exercise will also provide participating bands with an opportunity to rehearse and fine-tune their performances ahead of the main carnival.
The announcement comes as Calabar prepares for another edition of the carnival, which has remained a major platform for showcasing Cross River’s cultural heritage, creative talent and entertainment industry.
With the theme, “Rethinking Our Collective Destiny,” the 2026 edition is expected to combine the colourful spectacle of the carnival with a message centred on collective aspirations and the future.
The first dry run is expected to heighten anticipation across Calabar, with residents and visitors looking forward to the return of the colourful displays, music, dance and vibrant performances associated with the festival.
The Commission has invited residents, visitors and carnival enthusiasts to join the celebration and experience the excitement as the carnival season gathers momentum.
As preparations continue, carnival lovers are encouraged to get ready for another season of culture, creativity, music, dance and entertainment.
