In a meeting with Principals from various Science and Technical Schools across the State, the Honourable Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Justin Atiang Beshel, urged the Heads of these specialized schools to take their work seriously, as they are the pride of the society who are raising leaders of tomorrow. The Commissioner, who is an old student of both Science and Technical schools recalled the glory days of the State's science and technical education.
Dr. Beshel expressed his desire to revamp Science and Technology education in line with the Mandate of his Ministry. He encouraged Principals to put monitoring measures to check the activities of teachers. He also emphasized the need to raise talents through various educational competitions and quizzes. He sued for maximum cooperation from principals and teachers to achieve on its mandate, priding the ministry’s outstanding national visibility including winning the first prize in the National Techno EXPO competition in the first year of Governor Bassey Edet Otu's administration.
The Commissioner also commended the Principals and urged them to ensure the right things are done. He warned that corruption will not be tolerated under his watch. He announced plans to implement massive transfer of teachers who have spent considerable number of years in a particular school. He concluded by urging Principals to adopt mandatory establishment of JETS and Young Farmers clubs in all Science and Technical schools, while calling for the revamping of Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Cross River State Chapter.
The meeting had in attendance, the Executive Secretary of Science and Technical Education Board, Dr. Emmanuel Archibong, and the Management team of the Board. It was concluded with a group photograph.
Dr. Beshel's message to the teachers is clear: work with me to revive the State's Glory in Science, Technology , and Innovation and help shape the leaders of tomorrow.
