C’River insists on implementing refuse disposal regulations, scavenging ban

The government of Cross River State has restated its position on regulations guiding refuse disposal in the state, especially within the Calabar metropolis.

In a release made available by the Special Adviser to the governor on Special Duties, Ekpenyong Akiba, on Monday, he noted that 6 pm to 10 pm every day remains the period for refuse disposal in the state.

Akiba disclosed that Cross River is one of the cleanest states in the federation and shall maintain the status quo to align with the ‘People’s First’ agenda of Governor Bassey Edet Otu.

He added that enforcement agents have been recruited and will be stationed at strategic refuse points to bring defaulters to book.

Similarly, the government also put a total ban on all refuse scavengers, as their activities, according to the government, pose serious security concerns for citizens.

The government warned perpetrators to desist forthwith as security agents have been mandated to arrest and prosecute perpetrators.
