The Cross River State Ministry of Environment has sealed a bakery located on Eyo Etta Street, Calabar, over environmental violations.

The Commissioner for Environment, Barr. Bassey Offiong Mensah, who led the enforcement team, said the bakery had channelled wastewater from its premises into a neighbouring private property, describing the act as unacceptable and a violation of environmental regulations.

According to the Commissioner, the matter was brought to his attention on Saturday, prompting him to visit the location where he observed the situation firsthand.

He explained that the Ministry sealed the facility in line with the Cross River State Government's commitment to ensuring strict compliance with environmental laws, safeguarding public health and promoting a cleaner, healthier and safer environment for all residents.

In his response, the bakery's manager, Mr. Kingsley Emmanuel, claimed there was an agreement between the landlords of both properties.

The Commissioner maintained that businesses, particularly manufacturing facilities, must make adequate provision for wastewater disposal during construction and operation to prevent environmental nuisance.
