CROSS RIVER CARNIVAL COMMISSION DEFENDS LAGOS HOSTING OF 2026 CARNIVAL CALABAR UNVEILING

The Cross River State Carnival Commission has clarified reasons for hosting the unveiling ceremony of the 2026 Carnival Calabar in Lagos State following reactions from some residents and Nigerians.

The unveiling ceremony for the 2026 Carnival Calabar is scheduled to hold on May 31, 2026, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Secretary of the Cross River State Carnival Commission, Evangelist Austin Cobham(ANIPR) explained that the unveiling ceremony is principally a strategic marketing event designed to attract sponsors and strengthen partnerships for the Carnival Calabar brand.

According to him, Lagos provides easier access to top corporate executives and key decision-makers whose support is essential to the growth and sustainability of the carnival.

Evangelist Cobham noted that previous attempts to host similar unveiling events in Cross River State did not generate the desired level of sponsorship and corporate participation.

He explained that organizing the event in Lagos allows chief executives of companies to conveniently attend presentations, make commitments, and return to their schedules without the need for extended travel.

The Executive Secretary Carnival Commission further emphasized that Calabar remains a destination city where visitors travel intentionally for tourism and related activities.

He reassured stakeholders and the public that despite the unveiling taking place in Lagos, the main Carnival Calabar celebration will continue to hold in Cross River State as one of Africa’s biggest street festivals and tourism events.
