The Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has received thousands of classroom furniture items and 20 minibuses under the 2025 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC)/Cross River SUBEB Intervention Project, in a major boost to basic education delivery across the state.
The intervention includes 600 chairs for Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) centres, 480 sets of desks and chairs for junior secondary schools, and 3,120 sets of desks and chairs for primary schools. It also features 20 minibuses to enhance school monitoring, quality assurance and supervision across the state’s 18 local government areas.
Presenting the items, the Executive Chairman of Cross River SUBEB, Mrs. Fedelia Okpo Ene, Esq., described the intervention as a strategic investment in improving teaching and learning outcomes in public basic schools.
She said the provision of adequate classroom furniture would create a more conducive learning environment, enhance pupils’ comfort and concentration, and support improved academic performance across the state.
Mrs. Okpo Ene noted that the newly acquired minibuses would strengthen the Board’s capacity to conduct routine school inspections, monitor compliance with educational standards and improve quality assurance in the administration of basic education.
She expressed appreciation to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for its sustained partnership and continued support in advancing basic education in Cross River State.
The SUBEB Chairman also commended Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu for his unwavering commitment to repositioning the education sector through sustained investments in infrastructure, learning facilities and institutional capacity development.
Reaffirming the Board’s commitment to transparency and accountability, she assured that the classroom furniture and vehicles would be equitably distributed to schools to ensure maximum impact on teaching, learning and effective service delivery.
According to her, the intervention is in line with Governor Otu’s People First agenda, which prioritises improved access to quality education, enhanced learning environments and stronger institutional capacity within the basic education sector.
The 2025 UBEC/Cross River SUBEB Intervention Project further reflects the shared commitment of the Federal Government, through UBEC, and the Cross River State Government to building an inclusive, resilient and high-performing basic education system that meets the learning needs of every child in the state.
