First Lady's Birthday: Calabar Market Women to lock horns in novelty duel

A novelty football match between market women in Calabar Metropolis has been slated to hold at the UJ Esuene Stadium on Sunday April 7 under floodlight by 7:00pm.

The game, according to organisers is one of the activities put in place to spice up the diamond birthday anniversary of Cross River's First Lady, Rev. Mrs Eyoawan Otu.

Exchanging views with Newsmen, Chairman of the organising committee, Etta Lawrence said the soccer duel was concieved to add flavour and glamour to the birthday package and to enable the market women unwind from to their routine daily chores.

According to him" Our first lady is particular about the market women and always insist on featuring them in her engagements.

That is why we came up with this concept which is the first of its kind in our clime.

As a build up to the game, both teams have been training extensively for the match which is expected to unveil hidden talents from both sides. It is also intended to introduce our market women to the importance of keeping fit as a way of letting off steam from their normal monotonous schedule".

The encounter is expected to be flagged off by the first lady and will be watched by dignitaries including the state governor, Senator Bassey Otu, members of the state House of Assembly, members of the state executive council as well as friends and well wishers of the governor's wife.
