Flooding: FG to support C'River, Other Affected States With N3bn

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a N3 billion relief fund to assist states affected by flooding, aiming to mitigate the impact of the natural disaster. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. Edun explained that the National Economic Council’s proactive measures are designed to prepare affected states, such as Kebbi, for the upcoming dry season farming, which is vital to ensuring food security and affordability.

Edun emphasized the importance of dry season farming, noting that successful implementation will boost food availability, stabilize prices, and reduce inflation. He reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the states’ resilience and productivity, which will further strengthen Nigeria’s food basket.

Minister of Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, who accompanied Edun, expressed concern over the widespread damage caused by flooding but praised the resilience of the people of Kebbi. He assured that the federal government would continue to support dry season farming efforts to help the state recover and improve agricultural output. In addition to the N3 billion fund, the federal government has approved a Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund, which includes plans to develop the Badagry–Sokoto road, further enhancing regional infrastructure.
