FRSC Seeks Collaboration with Ministry of Works on Road Safety

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Calabar Sector Command, has called for closer collaboration with the Cross River State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to improve road safety and infrastructure across the state.

The State Commandant of the Corps, I.K. Etuk, made the call when he led a delegation from the Command on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner in his office in Calabar on Monday.

The 24th Sector Commander of the Calabar Command, who described himself as a beginner in the field, said the visit was aimed at sharing experiences and strengthening inter-agency collaboration to ensure safer highways across the state.

Etuk thanked Governor Otu for providing an enabling environment that has allowed the FRSC to function effectively and deliver improved performance by upgrading facilities at the Command’s office. He outlined the Command’s operational strategies for enhancing road safety, including the installation of signage at Iva Aborador in Asufo and the naming of streets.

The Commander also announced a planned Road Audit and free vehicle checks, alongside sensitization activities scheduled for 7th June 2026 at Mile 8. He stressed the need for continued partnership to ensure safer roads in Calabar and its environs.

In response, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Pius Ankpo, thanked the FRSC team for the visit and assured them of his readiness to partner with the federal agency. He emphasized the importance of teamwork to enable the FRSC to operate more effectively, especially as road construction works continue across the state.

The Commissioner pledged the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with the FRSC and identified some challenges linked to the state’s mangrove terrain. He also pointed to ongoing federal road projects, such as the Akamkpa, Obudu, and Okom-Nsang roads, noting that these would be reviewed in line with the Ministry’s programme.

The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to maintain a working relationship aimed at reducing road accidents and improving traffic management in Cross River State.
