GOV. OTU CELEBRATES 66TH BIRTHDAY WITH ROAD SWEEPERS

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, has distributed food palliatives to women of the Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA) particularly the road sweepers in Calabar metropolis, in celebration of his 66th birthday.

The event, which took place at the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) warehouse, was organized to appreciate and encourage the women for their tireless efforts in keeping the city clean.

Supervising the distribution, the Governor, represented by the Director General of SEMA, Mr. Antigha Gill, explained that Governor Otu decided to celebrate his birthday with the sweepers to honor their dedication and contribution to the State’s sanitation efforts.

Mr. Gill reflected on the 2023 elections, recalling how, on behalf of Governor Otu, they had sought the women’s support, which they wholeheartedly gave on election day, describing the act as a reciprocation of their gesture.

The beneficiaries, made up of women from CUDA and other road cleaning units, received food items such as rice, tomatoes, and other essentials.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the leader of the sweepers, Ekaette Effiong, expressed gratitude to the Governor for remembering them, noting that as he has remembered them, God will also remember him.

She praised the Governor and prayed for his continued success, saying, “God will bless Sweet Prince even as he seeks a second term; nothing will stop him.”

Also speaking, Mrs. Emilia Okon, appreciated the Governor, stating that they had once lived in “darkness,” but Governor Otu has now “brought them light.”

The women pledged to continue keeping the State clean and vowed to support the Governor in the 2027 elections.
