Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has congratulated Mr. Eze Anaba on his re-election as President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), describing his unopposed victory as a reflection of “unyielding integrity, inclusive leadership, and unwavering commitment to credible journalism.”
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Linus Obogo, the Governor also extended felicitations to the newly elected General Secretary, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh of The Sun Newspapers, and Deputy President, Dr. Abu Sabastine Mohammed, along with other executive members elected at the Guild’s Biennial National Convention held in Enugu.
Governor Otu lauded the composition of the new leadership, noting that it represents “a healthy blend of experience and innovation” and serves as a “reassuring signal that the future of editorial leadership in Nigeria remains in capable hands.”
He also paid tribute to the outgoing executives, including Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren and Mr. Steve Nwosu, for what he described as “years of dedicated service that helped reposition the Guild as a bastion of press freedom and professional excellence.”
Commending the peaceful and transparent conduct of the convention, Governor Otu called the process “a model worthy of emulation by other professional bodies and political institutions.”
Reaffirming his administration’s support for press freedom, the Governor stated: “In Cross River State, we see the media not as an adversary but as a critical partner in governance. I look forward to deeper collaboration with the Nigerian Guild of Editors in advancing truth, accountability, and national cohesion through ethical journalism.”
