In line with his administration’s commitment to enhancing statewide connectivity through strategic infrastructure, Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has officially flagged off the construction of a 10-kilometre Ndok Junction–Mbube–Okubushuyu road in Ogoja Local Government Area.

The flag-off ceremony, which took place on Saturday at Ekumtak-Mbube, was performed on behalf of the governor by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey. He described the project as a key component of the government’s efforts to open up rural communities, stimulate economic activity, and improve transportation for residents, thereby enhancing their socioeconomic wellbeing.

“This is only the first phase,” Odey noted, “as subsequent phases will extend the road from Mbube East to Utugwang in Obudu Local Government Area.”

He charged the contractor to adhere to global best practices in delivering the project and urged them to prioritize local content by engaging community labour, particularly the youth. According to him, this approach will not only expedite the project but also create employment opportunities, foster local participation, and boost the economic resilience of the area.

Odey also expressed gratitude to the people of Ogoja and Cross Riverians for their unwavering support for Governor Otu’s administration. He reiterated the government’s determination to ensure that all parts of the state are connected by a functional and economically viable road network.

Commending the governor for fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of Ogoja, the deputy governor pledged the continued cooperation and support of the local communities toward the administration’s success.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Pius Ankpo, acknowledged the state’s lean financial resources but assured that the project was being executed in phases to allow for effective resource management. He noted that the Ministry of Works would maintain strict oversight to ensure the project meets approved specifications.

Ankpo further revealed that more than 12 kilometres of road rehabilitation work is ongoing within Ogoja metropolis, underscoring the administration’s commitment to rural development and inter-community connectivity.

Traditional rulers and community leaders who spoke at the sidelines of the event lauded Governor Otu’s visionary leadership and the wide range of development projects being executed across the state. They pledged their continued support and offered prayers for the success of his administration.
