Gov. Otu Flags Off Housing Scheme, Unveils Civil Service Reforms, Engages Youth in Cross River

Cross River State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, represented by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for 1,000 units of the People First Housing Scheme for civil servants at Ikot Efiokon Etim Village, Akpabuyo Local Government Area.

Similarly, at the New Secretariat Complex, Calabar, he performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the state’s Civil Service Staff Club/Event Centre for public servants. He then proceeded to Kashim Shettima Hall, State Library Complex, Calabar, where he formally unveiled the state’s Civil Service Manual and Civil Service Song, and also graced the Cross River Youth Unity and Assessment Programme, themed “Building Tomorrow Today: Youth Unity, Accountability and Representation.”

In his remarks, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of civil servants and investing in initiatives that promote efficiency, unity, and professionalism within the public service. He emphasized that the housing scheme and staff club project are designed to improve the quality of life for workers, while the Civil Service Manual and Song would serve as tools for strengthening discipline, institutional identity, and a shared sense of purpose.

He further encouraged young people in the state to embrace unity, accountability, and active participation in governance as critical pillars for building a sustainable and prosperous future.

The events were attended by the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh; the Head of Service, Barr. Orok Bassey Okon; council chairmen, traditional rulers, and top government officials, among others.
