…Promises to Power 10,000 Rural Homes Across the State

The Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has commenced the distribution of solar home systems to residents of Yala and Bekwarra Local Government Areas, marking a major step forward in his administration’s drive for inclusive and sustainable energy access.

Anchored on his “People First” mantra, the initiative seeks to power 10,000 rural homes and small businesses across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State, providing clean, reliable, and affordable energy to communities long excluded from the national grid.

The Governor who was represented at the flag-off event, by the Director General of the Cross River State Electrification Agency, Mr. Francis Ekpo , described the project as a practical demonstration of Governor Otu’s commitment to improving living conditions and driving grassroots development. He noted that access to solar energy will not only light up homes but also enhance productivity, promote small businesses, and strengthen rural economies.

Mr. Ekpo reaffirmed that Governor Otu remains resolute in his mission to electrify all 18 Local Government Areas, ensuring that even the most remote communities in Cross River State benefit from sustainable and renewable energy solutions.

The Chairman of Yala Local Government Area, Hon. Fred Okem, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to the welfare of rural dwellers. He lauded the project as a “life-changing intervention” that will boost economic activities and foster community growth.

Similarly, the Acting Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area, Hon. Egbung Odama Egbung applauded the Governor’s consistent efforts in promoting inclusive development, describing the solar initiative as a reflection of his people-centered governance.
