The Cross River State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident involving students and a staff member of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), describing the incident as a painful loss to the state.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mr. Linus Obogo, Governor Bassey Otu said the tragedy has left the state in grief and cast a heavy shadow over the academic community.
He lamented the untimely death of the students and staff member, noting that they were promising individuals whose lives and service were cut short at their prime.
“This is a heartbreaking moment for Cross River State. In one cruel twist of fate, we have lost bright young lives and a dedicated staff member whose contributions to society cannot be easily replaced,” the Governor said.
He added that the tragedy had brought immense pain to families and the entire UNICROSS community, describing the loss as one that resonates across the state.
The Governor extended condolences to the bereaved families, praying God to grant them strength and comfort in this period of deep sorrow.
He also sympathised with the university community, acknowledging the emotional impact of the incident on students, staff, and management.
“We stand in solidarity with the families and the entire UNICROSS community. No words can truly capture the depth of this pain, but we pray for healing and divine comfort,” he added.
Otu assured that the state government is also committed to supporting those receiving medical care and prayed for their full recovery.
He urged citizens to remain united in compassion and prayer, noting that the pain of the university community is shared by all Cross Riverians.
The Governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and reaffirmed government’s support to affected families during this difficult time.
