Gov Otu’s Aide Stresses Quality Care at General Hospital, Calabar

The Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Nursing , Mr. Esu Coco-Bassey Esu, has called on nurses and other health workers of the General Hospital, Calabar, to serve as a model to other hospitals within the state.

Esu who gave the charge during a working visit to the hospital emphasized the importance of delivering quality services to patients, training students, upholding professional ethics and etiquettes, maintaining discipline, and compliance to prescribed nursing outfits.

The Special Assistant stressed the need for attitudinal change to conform with professional standards.

He assured staff the facility that Governor Bassey Edet Otu, has addressed pressing issues related to staff employment, development, and remunerations. These efforts according to him are to ensure the functionality of the health sector. Mr. Coco-Bassey stated that nurses must conduct themselves professionally, provide mentorship to students in both character and learning, assist in preventing extortion from patients, and maintain an aesthetically pleasing environment for patients.

Mr. Coco-Bassey lauded the efforts of the hospital management in improving the hospital environmental and clinical conditions and urged the management to persevere in maintaining standards as the hospital is considered a benchmark for other hospitals.

Responding, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Takim Kenneth, highlighted the success stories of the hospital as well as the challenges, noting that with the continued support of His Excellency Sen. Prince Otu and critical stakeholders, General Hospital Calabar, will be the best in service delivery to the clients.

Also speaking, the Head of Nursing Services, Mrs. Mbang Fabian stated that the Nursing department is committed to serving patients/clients visiting the facility and reducing burdens on patients through holistic and evidence based care.

The visit included interactive sessions with attendees, including the Provost of the College of Nursing Sciences Calabar, Mrs. Joy Obetem, the hospital administrator Mr. Eteng Eta , ward managers, unit heads, NANNM officials, and nurses. The visit climaxed with a tour of the facility by the SA and all attendees ably led by Dr Takim, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.
