Governor Otu Pledges to Boost Tourism Appeal as He Bags Hospitality Champion Award

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the state’s tourism potential after being honoured with the Tourism and Hospitality Champion Award.

Governor Otu, represented by his deputy, Peter Odey, made this known while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards held at the NAF Conference Hall, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Odey conveyed the governor’s appreciation to the organisers shortly after receiving the award from the Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, who noted that the honour recognises the Otu administration’s efforts in promoting tourism and strengthening the hospitality sector in Cross River State.

Describing the award as both a recognition of achievements and a motivation to do more, Dr. Odey reiterated the administration’s resolve to boost the state’s tourism appeal through sustained investment in infrastructure, promotion of cultural heritage, and strategic partnerships with private sector players.

He highlighted key programmes of the state government, including the rebranding and upscaling of Carnival Calabar, the rehabilitation of Obudu Ranch Resort, Agbokim Waterfalls, and Marina Resort, as well as infrastructural development such as access roads to tourist sites and agro-industrialisation efforts.

He further noted that tourism remains a vital component of the state’s economic development strategy, with the potential to generate revenue, create employment, and promote cultural exchange.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of BON, Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, described the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards as a platform that recognises and rewards professional excellence and societal impact, noting that awardees were carefully selected based on their track records and media friendliness.

In his response on behalf of the awardees, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, expressed appreciation to the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria for the recognition, noting that the honour serves as a strong motivation to continue delivering with dedication. He added that the awardees are encouraged by the appreciation of their efforts, thanked the organisers on behalf of all recipients, and reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining excellence.

Other awardees include Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, among other dignitaries across various categories.
