The Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, on Thursday, inspected the ongoing reconstruction of a major soakaway facility at the General Hospital Calabar, as part of efforts to improve sanitation and service delivery in public health institutions.
The inspection was carried out alongside the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Kenneth Takim, who is overseeing the project.
Ayuk expressed satisfaction with the commencement of work, describing the intervention as timely and critical to maintaining proper environmental health standards within the facility.
“I am delighted that work has commenced. I commend the Medical Superintendent and his team for their proactive efforts,” he said.
He noted that the reconstruction of the soakaway system would significantly enhance waste management, reduce sanitation risks, and create a safer environment for both patients and healthcare workers.
The Commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Cross River State, adding that ongoing upgrades in health facilities are aimed at improving the quality of care and overall patient experience.
