The Joseph Odey Foundation, the Ministry of Youth Development, and the Ministry of Information in Cross River State have jointly described, as very estimable, the excellent academic strides of 15-year-old Grace Unimwoshi.
Speaking at an award-giving ceremony at the Emeraldfield School in Calabar, Mr. Joseph Odey, founder of the Joseph Odey Foundation, thanked the management and teachers of the institution and encouraged the students to emulate the excellent performance of their senior colleague.
Odey praised the 15-year old who he said has received a scholarship into Nile University of Nigeria courtesy of her outstanding academic performance.
“The Celebration of Grace Unimwoshi is intended to encourage you (students of Emerald School) to make the best of the opportunity you have here today, to build your future, because the future belongs to you. I hope that this initiative will encourage academic performance amongst you the young ones in this age where we are always hearing that school is not important.
“If you go out there, some people say school is a scam, but it’s not true. I encourage you to focus on what you are doing because you are laying a foundation for our collective future,” Odey encouraged.
On his part, the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Barrister Odum Ijom Ukam, called on well-meaning private individuals and organizations to jointly support Miss Grace adding that the concept of celebrating beauty instead of bargaining should be reversed.
“Am sure if it was a beauty contest that she won by now there would be companies coming to give her cars, and money and to celebrate her as a beauty queen. But here is a student who has broken records, so I think government and private individuals need to have representation, we need to disabuse the minds of our young people.”
Recall that CrossRiverWatch had earlier reported that a 15-year old, Miss Unimwoshi Grace Ogbeche had performed excellently during the last West African Examination Council (WAEC) examination and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Examinations scoring 6 As, one B, and two Cs in her WAEC examination. She is also among the best JAMB scorers from her school – scoring 326 aggregate.
Speaking on behalf of the celebrant, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ogbeche, thank the school management, teachers, and the government for contributing and recognizing the success of their daughter, even though she was unavoidably absent due to her new admission.
The management of the school through the school administrator, Bridgette Angba expressed excitement about the success of the 15-year-old, adding that “every result from the school is an independent work of our students.”
A brand new laptop and textbooks were donated to Grace and Emeraldfield school, in addition to cash gifts earlier donated.
