Obubra/Etung Endorses Gov. Otu, Deputy Odey for 2027 at Mega Rally

Stakeholders and political leaders from Obubra and Etung Federal Constituency have unanimously endorsed Cross River State Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dr. Peter Odey, for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was made at a well-attended mega rally organised by the Obubra/Etung Political Assembly on Thursday, December, in Ovonum, Obubra, where community leaders, party faithful and supporters converged to reaffirm their confidence in the Governor’s leadership.

Speaking at the event, participants highlighted the administration’s impactful interventions in the constituency, particularly in the health sector, describing them as clear evidence of the Governor’s People First governance philosophy.

Leading a high-powered delegation to the rally, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, said the development of Obubra/Etung had become closely tied to Governor Otu’s visionary and inclusive leadership.

Dr. Ayuk unveiled an ambitious healthcare roadmap approved by the Governor, aimed at revitalising medical infrastructure across the state. He announced that by the end of January 2026, specialised free healthcare centres dedicated to women and children would be established in all local government areas.

Addressing specific needs in the constituency, the Commissioner assured that health facilities in Ofatura and Ababene were being fast-tracked and would be fully operational before the end of January 2026. He further disclosed that Obubra General Hospital is slated for a comprehensive upgrade, with modern medical equipment expected to be fully installed by March 2026. He revealed that the Governor is already focused on remodeling and completing the abandoned General Hospital at Border Road in Etung Local Government Area

Dr. Ayuk also revealed that Governor Otu has directed the strengthening of the state’s medical defence system, pointing out that only support for the administration beyond 2027 can foster greater development in the constituency.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Kieran Mfam, a former Local Government Chairman and respected statesman, welcomed stakeholders and said the gathering was meant to reassure the people that the Governor they elected had effectively commenced development across all sectors of the state.

He noted that although Cross River State is vast, the Otu administration is systematically ensuring that development reaches every part of the state. Dr. Mfam described the rally as an opportunity for the people to commend the Governor for his achievements so far and to prepare for a second term to guarantee continuity of ongoing projects. He also lauded Dr. Ayuk for aligning with the objectives of the assembly, describing it as a demonstration of purposeful leadership.

The event also witnessed the expansion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the constituency, with several high-profile decampees including Mr Maurice Agbor (Iyamoyong Obubra and Madam Kate Ogim (Abijang Etung) formally joining the party. They were received by the Obubra Chapter Chairman, Deacon Dennis Agbor, alongside the APC Etung Chapter Chairman Eric Ndifon.

A major highlight of the rally was the unanimous call on Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk to step forward and vie for the Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, with stakeholders and participants lamenting over a decade of what they described as poor representation. They said the call was driven by the urgent need for a change of baton to restore effective, people-focused representation in the constituency.
