The Leader of the Obudu Legislative Council, Hon. Eneji Sam Ashibi, has empowered 149 constituents of Utugwang North Ward with farm implements, cash and household items as part of efforts to support their livelihoods and improve their welfare.
The empowerment programme, held at Utugwang North Ward in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, came during activities surrounding the annual Obudu New Yam Festival, celebrated every first Saturday of September.
The beneficiaries comprised 99 men and 50 women. The men received farm implements and ₦5,000 each to support their agricultural activities, while the women received six yards of wrapper, Maggi, salt and ₦5,000 each.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Ashibi described the gesture as his modest way of saying thank you to the people for their support and goodwill over the years.
He said the intervention was driven by his desire to give back to the community and support the welfare of his constituents, particularly during the festive period.
The council leader also enjoined the beneficiaries to continue to support and keep faith with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Christopher Ushie expressed gratitude to Ashibi for remembering his constituents and reaching out to them with practical support.
Ushie said it took a genuine leader to remember his people, especially during festive periods, noting that the gesture was not connected to political activities.
He commended Ashibi for identifying with the people and providing assistance at a time when many families were in need of support.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying the farm implements and financial assistance would contribute to improving their livelihoods and meeting some of their immediate needs.
