Oodua Women Declare Support for Otu, Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

The Oodua Progressive Women in Politics in Cross River State have declared their support for the second-term bids of Governor Bassey Edet Otu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The socio-political organisation said its decision was based on the performance of the two administrations, as well as what it described as the inclusion and recognition of their children in government through various appointments.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Cross River State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam Kabir Olowolayemo, in Calabar, the Chairman of the group, Ambassador Adejoke Oyeleye, said a second term for Governor Otu and President Tinubu would provide an opportunity to consolidate and improve on the gains recorded during their first tenure.

Oyeleye said the group remained committed to mobilising support for both leaders ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that their achievements deserved the support of the electorate.

She also disclosed plans by the organisation to organise a Unity Walk for sons and daughters of Oodua across the 18 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to strengthen unity and promote greater participation in the political process.

According to her, the group would also host the first-ever “Oodua Day Celebration” in Calabar, an event she said would bring together Oodua indigenes, non-indigenous communities and government officials to commemorate the historic occasion in the ancient city.

Responding, Olowolayemo described the Oodua Progressive Women as one of the foremost socio-political organisations committed to the re-election of Governor Otu and President Tinubu.

He said the present administration had provided opportunities for members of the Yoruba community and other ethnic groups to contribute to governance through appointments and other responsibilities.

The Chairman also cited improved security, infrastructure and the promotion of human welfare as evidence of the administration’s performance, noting that residents and businesses could now operate more freely without fear of molestation.

He expressed optimism that the support declared by the group would translate into votes during the 2027 elections.

“I am optimistic that the solidarity we are declaring today will be translated with our voter cards come 2027,” Olowolayemo said.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Non-Indigenous Affairs, Mazi Okey Maduakwe, described the Oodua Progressive Women as organic supporters of Governor Otu, noting that they had remained steadfast in their support for his administration.
