In a renewed push to strengthen public safety and national security, the Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command, and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation on intelligence sharing, maritime security, border surveillance, and other areas of mutual interest.
The commitment was consolidated recently when the Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, received senior officials of the NCS Eastern Marine Command, Port Harcourt, led by Acting Comptroller E. E. Esiet, on a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Calabar.
According to a statement signed by ASP Sunday Eitokpah, Police Public Relations Officer, the engagement aims to enhance operational synergy in tackling smuggling, piracy, and other transnational crimes prevalent along the State’s maritime and land borders.
During the meeting, CP Afegbua commended the Customs Service for its consistent support in security operations across the State, noting that stronger intelligence cooperation would enable both agencies to respond swiftly to emerging threats.
“Public safety thrives on trust, coordination, and intelligence. Today’s meeting reinforces our shared commitment to a safer Cross River and a more secure Nigeria,” he said.
The Commissioner also assured the delegation of the Command’s readiness to collaborate at all times, while appreciating them for the visit.
Earlier, Acting Comptroller Esiet stated that the Service remains dedicated to inter-agency collaboration as a core pillar of its operational strategy.
He added that the visit aligns with the directive of the Comptroller-General of Customs, which emphasizes Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation.
