Etomi youths in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State have thrown their weight behind Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s second-term bid, declaring their support for continuity as they rallied in solidarity with the Governor during the homecoming of his Special Adviser on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr. Gilbert Agbor.
The youths, alongside other APC supporters and grassroots groups, gave Agbor a rousing welcome on Wednesday, escorting him for about one kilometre along the Etomi-Agbokim Road to his country home. Agbor had returned to Etomi ahead of the annual Etung New Yam Festival on September 4 to celebrate with his people when the supporters mobilised to receive him.
The spontaneous reception, marked by cheers and ovation, provided an opportunity for the youths to reaffirm their confidence in the Otu-led administration and their preference for continuity beyond the Governor’s first term.
Speaking on the unexpected reception, Agbor expressed appreciation to the youths and other grassroots supporters, describing the gesture as a pleasant surprise and a demonstration of genuine support for the Governor.
“This is a very pleasant surprise, and I want to thank all our supporters. I thank the grassroots groups that have come to show solidarity for Governor Bassey Otu,” he said.
Agbor described the reception as a rare demonstration of organic love for a government that has performed creditably well.
He said the growing grassroots support for Governor Otu reflected confidence in the administration, adding that the choice of who should continue to lead the state was becoming increasingly compelling.
Agbor also assured the people of Etomi of his continued commitment to their interests, promising to advocate for interventions that would positively impact the community under the Governor Otu-led administration.
“I assure you that Governor Otu is with you. Whatever Etomi may need to be done properly, this government will show Etomi my love at the grassroots,” he said.
