This drainage is the primary water channel in the urban area of Calabar South, emptying into the Calabar River. Its location divides a significant part of the town into two, serving as a major entry point to the region. Over the years, repeated failures at the culvert site have resulted in the loss of lives and property.
Upon taking office, Governor Bassey Otu promised a lasting solution to end the hardships faced by residents in the area.
