The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has issued a stern warning to final-year students against organising or participating in any sign-out activity within or around its campuses as they conclude their final examinations today, Friday, September 18, 2026.
The University Management said the ban remains strictly in force and warned that no graduating student, group or association should organise, facilitate or participate in any activity capable of disrupting peace and security on the University premises.
The final-year examinations, which commenced on Monday, September 14, are being concluded across various programmes, with Management directing students to conduct themselves responsibly and leave the University environment peacefully after their examinations.
Management said the prohibition on sign-out activities was part of measures adopted to ensure a peaceful, orderly and secure environment for the conduct of examinations and to safeguard the wellbeing of students, staff and other members of the University community.
The University stressed that the conclusion of the examinations does not authorise students to disregard established rules, warning that any attempt to circumvent the directive would be viewed seriously.
To ensure strict compliance, Management said it had strengthened collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security formations to maintain adequate security across its campuses.
The University said the enhanced security arrangements were aimed at preventing activities capable of disrupting the peaceful conclusion of the examinations and ensuring effective enforcement of the ban on sign-out activities.
Management further warned students against unauthorised gatherings, reckless driving, excessive noise, disorderly conduct and other activities capable of compromising safety or disturbing public order, stressing that violations would attract appropriate action in line with University regulations and applicable laws.
Meanwhile, the University has clarified that a video circulating on social media showing an individual, reportedly identified as a leader of a cult group, shooting into the air while being escorted by members of the group, did not occur within UNICROSS or any of its campuses.
Management therefore cautioned students, staff and members of the public against associating incidents occurring outside the University with UNICROSS without proper verification, urging them to exercise restraint in sharing or interpreting unverified information.
As the graduating students complete their examinations, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey, on behalf of Management, congratulated them on reaching the significant milestone and wished them success in their examinations and future endeavours.
The Vice Chancellor urged the graduating students to celebrate responsibly, remain disciplined and uphold the values of the University as they transition from students to graduates.
Management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe, peaceful and conducive environment across its campuses and directed all students to comply fully with the University’s directives and security arrangements as the examination period comes to an end.
