The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work on the University’s state-of-the-art ICT/Multimedia Complex, describing the project as a major milestone in the institution’s drive towards digital transformation and academic excellence.
Prof. Bassey gave the commendation during an inspection of the facility on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, alongside principal officers of the University, project engineers, consultants and site supervisors. The visit formed part of the University’s quality assurance measures aimed at ensuring that all capital projects meet the highest standards of functionality, durability and excellence before being commissioned.
Recalling the commencement of the project, the Vice Chancellor said she handed over the site to the contractor in April 2025 and expressed delight that the facility has progressed from foundation level to the final stage of completion within a relatively short period.
She noted that the development reflects the University’s commitment to expanding modern infrastructure capable of supporting quality teaching, learning, research and innovation.
The inspection revealed that the ICT/Multimedia Complex is in its final phase, with most internal installations substantially completed. The ICT laboratories have been equipped with modern workstations, ergonomic seating, spacious work desks and computer systems securely preserved ahead of installation and commissioning.
The laboratories also feature contemporary wall graphics and well-designed learning spaces intended to stimulate creativity, innovation and academic excellence among students and staff.
The Vice Chancellor further inspected the executive and administrative offices, which have been tastefully partitioned and fitted with premium facilities, including high-quality doors, elegant wall finishes, polished floor tiles and efficient air-conditioning systems designed to provide a comfortable and professional working environment.
Beyond its functional features, the facility incorporates inspirational leadership quotations, decorative wall treatments, modern lighting fixtures and beautifully finished corridors and stairways, reflecting the University’s vision of creating a world-class educational environment.
Externally, the ICT/Multimedia Complex presents an impressive architectural outlook with its sleek glass façade, tinted panels, neatly finished exterior walls and strategically installed air-conditioning condenser units. It also boasts essential safety and accessibility features such as reinforced staircases with durable handrails, emergency fire alarm call points, clearly marked exit routes and strategically positioned security surveillance systems.
Speaking after the inspection, Prof. Bassey commended the project managers, engineers, contractors and site personnel for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to delivering a facility that aligns with the University’s strategic vision for academic excellence, technological advancement and digital transformation.
She urged the contractors to sustain the current momentum by completing the remaining finishing works, final cleaning and quality assurance processes to facilitate the timely delivery and commissioning of the complex.
Upon completion, the ICT/Multimedia Complex is expected to significantly strengthen UNICROSS’ digital infrastructure by providing state-of-the-art facilities for teaching, learning, research, innovation and multimedia production.
The project represents another landmark achievement under the administration of Prof. Francisca Bassey and reinforces the University’s commitment to positioning UNICROSS as a leading institution of excellence, innovation and technology-driven education.
