The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has successfully renovated and upgraded students’ common rooms across its hostels, ending years of abandonment and reaffirming the institution’s commitment to student welfare and campus development.
The rehabilitation project was undertaken under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey, whose administration has continued to prioritize the improvement of student facilities and the creation of a conducive environment for learning and personal development.
The renovated common rooms, which had remained in a state of disrepair for more than a decade due to deterioration and inadequate maintenance, have now been transformed into functional and attractive spaces for students.
University authorities said the intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of campus life and provide students with facilities that support both academic and social engagement.
The upgraded facilities now offer comfortable spaces for relaxation, social interaction, academic discussions, collaborative learning, television viewing and other recreational activities.
Students are expected to benefit significantly from the improved environment, which is designed to promote community living, peer interaction and a more enriching residential experience.
The renovation is also seen as a response to longstanding concerns by students over the condition of hostel facilities and the need for improved welfare infrastructure on campus.
Observers have described the development as a major milestone in the university’s drive to modernize its facilities and align them with contemporary standards of student accommodation and support services.
Since assuming office, Prof. Bassey has championed several initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, strengthening academic excellence and enhancing the overall student experience across the institution.
The restoration of the common rooms adds to the growing list of interventions undertaken by the university management to improve the learning environment and foster a vibrant campus community.
University officials noted that the project reflects the administration’s recognition of the important role that student welfare plays in academic success and personal development.
