The Vice Chairman of Biase Local Government Area, Hon. Ekuma Ngwu JP, has joined key stakeholders from across Nigeria at a United Nations-backed National Dialogue on Nigeria’s Convergence for Food Safety, Security and Climate Resilience, held in Abuja.
The high-level dialogue, organised by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, focused on strengthening coordination within Nigeria’s food system, advancing sustainable food security, and building resilience against the effects of climate change.
Hon. Ngwu, who also serves as Chairman of the Food and Nutrition Committee in Biase LGA, attended the event alongside the Vice Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. Rhoda Ashong, and other critical stakeholders drawn from government, development organisations, and relevant sectors.
Speaking on the significance of the dialogue, Hon. Ngwu described the engagement as timely and strategic, especially as Nigeria continues to intensify efforts towards achieving food self-sufficiency and ensuring access to safe and nutritious food for its citizens.
He noted that the platform provided an important opportunity for stakeholders to align food systems transformation with climate action, adding that stronger collaboration among relevant actors would accelerate progress in addressing food insecurity and nutrition challenges.
According to him, integrating climate resilience into food policies and programmes remains essential to sustaining agricultural productivity, protecting livelihoods, and achieving national development objectives.
Hon. Ngwu further emphasised that the outcomes of the dialogue would support Nigeria’s commitment towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and meeting the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement through sustainable and resilient food systems.
The event featured the participation of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima; the Minister of Budget and National Planning; the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security; the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation; Chairmen of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Food and Nutrition, among other dignitaries and stakeholders.
