C'River Drug Control Committee Reaffirms Commitment to Drug-Free Society

The Cross River State Drug Control Committee has stepped up its efforts to fight substance abuse as it finalizes plans for the 2026 World Drug Day commemoration. The committee has reaffirmed its dedication to building a drug-free society through strategic planning, collaboration with stakeholders, and ongoing public awareness campaigns.

This commitment was reiterated during a follow-up meeting convened to review progress made so far and to finalize arrangements for activities marking the global observance of World Drug Day, scheduled for June 26, 2026.

The meeting was held on behalf of the Committee's Chairperson, Her Excellency, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, who is the Wife of the Governor of Cross River State. She was represented by the Vice Chairman of the Committee and Commissioner for Education, Professor Stephen Adi Odey.

Addressing committee members and stakeholders, Senator Odey commended their dedication, commitment, and continued support in the collective fight against drug abuse across the state. He stressed the importance of collaboration among all parties to ensure the success of the upcoming World Drug Day activities.

Senator Odey further explained that the committee remains firmly resolved to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and to promote healthy lifestyles among young people and the general public.

"We are very serious about this year's World Drug Day commemoration. That is why we have continued to emphasize proper planning and coordination of activities leading up to the event. Today's gathering is aimed at ensuring that all preparations are in place before activities begin. This meeting serves as a final review of our plans and strategies to guarantee a successful outing," he stated.

Senator Odey also charged committee members to strengthen synergy and cooperation in order to achieve a meaningful and impactful World Drug Day celebration. He noted that a united approach remains critical in tackling the growing challenge of substance abuse within communities.

The Commissioner also expressed profound gratitude to Her Excellency, Bishop Dr. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, for her unwavering support, leadership, and commitment to the committee's work and the broader campaign against drug abuse in Cross River State.

The committee reaffirmed its determination to sustain advocacy, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement initiatives aimed at preventing drug abuse and fostering a healthier, safer, and more productive society.
