The Cross River State Government has commenced the process to fill vacant Permanent Secretary positions in the State Civil Service, directing all qualified Directors to register for a mandatory qualifying examination.
The exercise was formalized in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Mr. Orok Bassey Okon, following executive approval from Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
According to the official directive, all interested Directors must take the examination, which is now a strict prerequisite for promotion to the position of Permanent Secretary.
"The examination is designed to assess candidates' strategic leadership capabilities, policy formulation skills, and depth of knowledge in public administration, as well as their commitment to the 'People First' agenda and developmental objectives of the Cross River State Government," Okon stated.
The circular confirms that application forms are free of charge and can be obtained from the Public Service Office (PSO) starting today, Friday, July 3, 2026, during official working hours.
Completed forms, along with photocopies of relevant credentials and two recent passport photographs, must be submitted no later than Friday, July 17, 2026. Late applications will not be considered.
The government issued a stern warning against falsification: "Providing false information or falsifying documents will lead to automatic disqualification and may attract disciplinary action in line with the Cross River State Public Service Rules."
The specific date, time, and venue for the examination will be communicated directly to candidates who successfully clear the initial application screening. Applicants are advised to monitor official government channels for subsequent announcements.
