The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has fixed local government elections in the state for October 26 2024.
Briefing stakeholders in a one day stakeholders parley ahead of the elections, the chairman of CROSIEC Mr. Ekong Edet Bocco disclosed that electoral activities leading to the conduct of the local elections according to the timetable have started in earnest with with the publication of the notice of election with party primaries to hold between 25th September and 15th October.
According to the electoral Chairman, processes leading to the presentation of party candidates will hold between October 8 to October 10 while collection of nomination forms and validation of candidates particulars is between October 11 and 18 2024.
Campaigns will hold between October 20 to 25 while the council polls will hold across the 18 local government elections on the 26th of October 2024.
They commission called on stakeholders and political parties to see election not as an event, but a process leading to the selection of our leaders while urging them to cooperate with the commission to ensure a free, fair, seamless and credible election.
They however frowned at mischief makers who released what the commission described as fake election timetable around the media on Wednesday and called on the general public to disregard information's emanating from unconfirmed sources while stressing that whichever necessary information that needs to be circulated will come from the commission.
