LG Polls: Assembly Speaker Calls For Peaceful Election

The Cross River State Speaker, Hon. Elvert Ayambem in a bid to ensure a peaceful and smooth conduct of the forthcoming November 2, 2024 local government council elections in Cross River State, especially in Ikom LGA, hosted the Commanding Officer of 245 Ricce Battalion, Afi Barracks Col. A. A. Adegboye, in his residence in Nde, earlier today.

The meeting which centered around possible ways to ensure a hitch free process was successful as the Commanding Officer gave a favorable nod in agreement to maintain peace throughout the election.

The Speaker hinted that electioneering periods always give opportunities to some people who come out with evil intentions to disrupt and carry out their violent plots. He insisted that the security of lives and properties is paramount and should not be treated with levity.

He reiterated that Governor Otu, in his capacity as a people-oriented Governor, in line with his People First Mantra, has tasked the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission, CROSIEC, to deliver a free, fair and transparent conduct of the local government elections across the state, and that it now behooves on the security outfits in different corners of the state to consolidate the governor’s efforts towards the sustainability of a favorable democratic atmosphere.

Col. Adegboye, expressed his gratitude to the speaker for being proactive and committed to his people. He assured the speaker of his unreserved dedication towards the security of Ikom and its environs.

He further revealed that he has been up to date with the election’s timetable and has been vigilantly doing the needful to proffer a calm and peaceful conclusion of the whole process across Ikom local government.
