Carnival Calabar 2024: Cross River insures participating bands, announces ₦10m lottery prize

The Cross River State Carnival Commission has partnered with International Energy Insurance (IEI) to insure all participating bands in this year’s Africa’s biggest street party.

Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Gabe Onah, announced the deal during the flag-off of the final dry run leading to the December 29th, 2024, carnival showmax.

Mr. Onah explained that the insurance package would cover accidental indemnities for participants who may sustain any form of injury during the street party, including compensation payments to the families of participants who may unfortunately pass away during the event.

He pointed out that traversing the 12-kilometer carnival route is energy-sapping and that certain safety measures needed to be put in place to assure participating bands of their safety and, more importantly, to keep pace with international best practices.

He also announced another partnership with Yanger Games for a lottery deal, where the first three winners will go home with a mouthwatering cash prize of ₦10 million.

He further announced a Group Personal Accident (GPA) policy for accidental injury involving more than one participant while the street show is ongoing.
