The ongoing asphalting of Sweet Mothers Street in Ikom Local Government Area has been described as a strategic intervention that will strengthen the economic base of the Central Senatorial District, as residents continue to witness renewed infrastructural attention under the administration of Governor Bassey Otu.
The project, which forms part of the government’s broader road rehabilitation programme in Ikom metropolis, is aimed at improving urban connectivity, easing movement of goods and services, and stimulating commercial activities within the area’s business corridors.
Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr. Gilbert Agbor, commended Governor Otu for what he described as deliberate and impactful intervention in the Ikom road network, noting that the gesture reflects the administration’s commitment to balanced development across the state.
Agbor stated that with continued improvement in road infrastructure, Ikom metropolis is well on its way to reclaiming its status as the commercial nerve centre of Cross River State, stressing that the present administration is determined to ensure that development projects are evenly distributed across all local government areas.
He urged residents of the Central Senatorial District to remain patient and supportive of the government’s ongoing reforms, adding that the benefits of the administration’s infrastructural drive would gradually extend to every community.
According to him, the “sweetness” of Governor Otu’s developmental agenda is being systematically delivered, assuring that no part of the state will be left behind as ongoing projects are progressively implemented.
He further praised the quality of work on Sweet Mothers Street, describing it as a clear indication of the government’s resolve to deliver durable infrastructure that will enhance commerce, improve mobility, and support long-term economic growth in Ikom.
