The Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, on Thursday participated in the Cross River State Security Summit 2026, themed “Cross River Unites Against Terror,” held at the Pearl Ballroom, Metropolitan Hotel, Calabar.

The summit, declared open by Governor Senator Prince Bassey Otu, represented by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, was attended by government officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers, religious leaders, local government chairmen, and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for strengthening security and combating terrorism across the state.
Addressing participants, Governor Bassey Otu, through his deputy, described security as the bedrock of development and commended security agencies for their sacrifices in restoring relative peace across the state. He urged them to sustain inter-agency collaboration, professionalism, and intelligence-driven operations while calling on citizens to support security efforts through vigilance and timely information sharing.

In his keynote address, the Director of the State Security Service (SSS), Cross River State Command, Mr. Oluwole Faluyi, described the “Unite Against Terror” campaign as a collective call to action. He stressed that lasting peace and security require the active participation of every resident through vigilance, cooperation with lawful authorities, and a shared commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Content Development and Archiving and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Ms. Beatrice Akpala, described the summit as a historic platform for renewing the partnership between government and citizens in safeguarding lives and preserving peace. She emphasized that sustaining Cross River’s peaceful status requires collaboration, intelligence sharing, and the collective efforts of all stakeholders.

Hon. Dr. Undiandeye described the summit as timely and commended the state government’s commitment to deepening collaboration among stakeholders to sustain peace and security. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Obudu Local Government Council to supporting initiatives that promote community vigilance, intelligence sharing, and peaceful coexistence.
