The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, has extended warm greetings to the people of Obudu and all Cross Riverians as the month of August begins, calling on citizens to embrace the new month with hope, gratitude, unity, and renewed optimism.
In his New Month message, the Chairman expressed appreciation to God for the gift of a new month and prayed for continued peace, good health, abundant blessings, and prosperity for every family across the Local Government Area.
As Obudu begins the countdown to the 2026 Obudu New Yam Festival (Bewhutang) scheduled for 5th September 2026, Dr. Undiandeye described the festival as a cherished cultural heritage that celebrates thanksgiving, unity, and the rich traditions of the Obudu people.
He encouraged residents, sons and daughters of Obudu at home and in the diaspora, as well as visitors from across Nigeria and beyond, to prepare for the colourful celebration, noting that this year’s festival promises to showcase the beauty of the Obudu culture, promote tourism, strengthen communal bonds, and stimulate local economic activities.
The Chairman further urged the people to remain peaceful, hospitable, and supportive as preparations gather momentum, stressing that the success of the festival depends on the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
“May this month usher in joy, divine favour, and greater opportunities for our people. As we look forward to our New Yam Festival, may this season of thanksgiving bring lasting peace, unity, and prosperity to every community in Obudu,” he said.
Dr. Undiandeye reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving the cultural identity of the Obudu people while pursuing sustainable development through the People First agenda.
Happy New Month and Happy New Yam Season in Advance!
