The Wife of the Cross River State Governor, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, has unveiled the “Power of 10 Million” initiative as a strategic platform to galvanize women across Nigeria for empowerment, inclusive governance, and national development.
Bishop Otu made this known during a meeting of the Contact, Mobilization and Accreditation Committee held in Abuja ahead of the 2026 National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally. As Chairman of the committee, she described the initiative as a high-impact movement designed to harness the collective strength, resilience, and influence of Nigerian women.
She explained that the rally would provide a unique national platform for women to actively engage in political and socio-economic processes, while also serving as a unified voice in shaping the country’s future.
According to her, the theme, “Power of 10 Million: One Voice, One Movement, One Choice,” goes beyond mere rhetoric, representing a deliberate effort to position women as key drivers of development and transformative governance.
“This is not just a slogan,” she said. “It is a declaration that reflects the collective strength and influence of women as a force for national progress. The mega empowerment is designed to bring women together as active participants in governance from the grassroots to the national level.”
Bishop Otu further highlighted the strategic importance of the committee’s mandate, noting that it carries the responsibility of ensuring aggressive and effective mobilization of women, stakeholders, and party members across the country.
She emphasized the need for coordinated engagement and seamless accreditation processes to guarantee widespread participation and the successful realization of the objectives of the landmark event.
Earlier, the Secretary of the committee, Hon. Ginika Tor, commended Bishop Otu’s leadership, describing her as a resilient and result-oriented figure whose commitment to excellence would drive the success of the programme.
In separate interviews, Mrs. Dorcas Azi and Princess Ako Nsa Ekpenyong expressed optimism about the initiative, noting that it would serve as a unifying platform for women from all walks of life to engage meaningfully in national development.
They called on women across the country to participate actively, describing the rally as an opportunity to amplify their voices and strengthen their role in governance.
The “Power of 10 Million” is a nationwide movement aimed at bringing women together in a coordinated and visible expression of unity and shared purpose. It reflects a growing commitment to policies and programmes that prioritize women’s empowerment through tangible investments and opportunities.
Organized by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the 2026 National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally is expected to feature a historic convergence of women, presentation of a national women’s charter, engagement with key stakeholders, empowerment initiatives, and symbolic activities celebrating unity and collective progress.
