Veteran journalist and respected Boki political leader, Mr. Dominic Kidzu, has applauded the administration of Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, describing his style of governance as inclusive, development-driven and responsive to the aspirations of the people.
In an open letter to Governor Otu, Kidzu commended the governor’s recent appointment of Chief Obi Ayuk Afor into the Cross River State Executive Council, saying the decision had sparked widespread excitement across Boki Local Government Area.
According to him, the appointment not only fulfilled the governor’s promise to retain the commissioner’s slot in Boki following the death of the former Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Arts, Hon. Abubakar Ewa, but also demonstrated fairness by returning the position to Buentsebe Ward, where the late commissioner hailed from.
“Once again you have demonstrated your love for Boki and fulfilled the promise you made that the position was still going to return to the local government. Now the office has returned not only to the local government area but also to Buentsebe Ward,” Kidzu wrote.
The veteran journalist also expressed gratitude to Governor Otu for appointing several other qualified sons and daughters of Boki into strategic positions, saying the governor had consistently demonstrated confidence in the area’s human capital.
He singled out the ongoing reconstruction of the Boki East-West Road for commendation, describing the project as transformational and predicting that it would significantly improve transportation, facilitate the evacuation of agricultural produce and stimulate economic activities across the area.
Kidzu also praised the governor’s broader development agenda, citing investments in transportation, education, healthcare, rural roads, employment generation, payment of salary arrears and the settlement of long-standing gratuities owed retirees.
He noted that the administration’s decision to employ over 5,000 Cross Riverians in both the state and local government services within three years underscored its commitment to improving the welfare of citizens.
While acknowledging that criticism is an integral part of democratic governance, Kidzu urged Governor Otu to remain focused despite attacks from political opponents.
“The criticism that is genuine and in good taste is obvious to the citizens, while the sponsored and baseless ones are equally clear. Do not be deterred or distracted. The dogs will bark, but the wayfarer must continue on his journey,” he stated.
Declaring that the people of Boki were proud of the governor’s achievements, Kidzu pledged their continued support for the administration, expressing confidence that Governor Otu’s record of performance and goodwill would earn him overwhelming backing from the local government in the 2027 governorship election.
