According to him, the state-owned airport has witnessed remarkable transformation under the Otu administration through effective supervision by the Ministry of Aviation and the sustained commitment of contractors handling the project.
Capt. Inah revealed that the asphalting of the runway and taxiway has attained an average completion rate of about 80 per cent, while the major substructure and superstructure works on the terminal building have been completed.
He explained that ongoing works on the terminal building, including mechanical and electrical installations, floor tiling and curtain wall installation, are all at advanced stages, bringing the overall completion level of the facility to about 80 per cent.
The Commissioner further disclosed that construction of the airport control tower has reached approximately 90 per cent completion, with only electrical and mechanical fittings outstanding, while work on the industrial borehole is about 65 per cent completed.
He also noted that the ultra-modern airport fire station is nearing completion, with three Category 7 fire-fighting trucks already procured by the state government to enhance emergency response and operational safety at the airport.
According to him, the fire station has attained about 90 per cent completion, with the remaining works comprising electrical and mechanical installations, floor and wall tiling, as well as the installation of doors and windows.
Capt. Inah added that substantial progress has equally been recorded on the airport apron, while construction of the access road and internal perimeter fence has reached about 45 per cent and 65 per cent completion respectively, alongside ongoing drainage works.
He further highlighted the successful procurement of three CRJ-1000 aircraft by the state government to strengthen the fleet of Cally Air, adding that the airline has also secured its Air Transport Licence, positioning it for expanded commercial operations.
“Every milestone recorded on this project brings us closer to realizing Governor Bassey Otu’s vision of making Cross River a major aviation, tourism and investment destination. We remain committed to delivering an airport that meets global standards and serves as a catalyst for socio-economic development,” Capt. Inah stated.
