Foreign Defence Advisers and Defence Attachés accredited to Nigeria on Wednesday got a firsthand experience of Cross River State’s rich tourism assets, investment opportunities and peaceful environment as Governor Bassey Edet Otu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to positioning the state as a premier destination for tourism, investment and international partnerships.
The Governor, represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, made the commitment on Wednesday at a banquet held in honour of the visiting delegation at the International Conference Centre, Obudu Ranch Resort, where he said tourism remains a major driver of economic growth and sustainable development under his administration.
Governor Otu said his administration has deliberately prioritised the revitalisation and repositioning of the Obudu Ranch Resort as a world-class tourism destination capable of attracting both domestic and international visitors, adding that sustained investments in infrastructure, security and hospitality are laying the foundation for economic diversification and inclusive prosperity.
He described Cross River as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful and secure states, noting that the prevailing atmosphere of peace has continued to inspire investor confidence and stimulate growth across key sectors of the economy. According to him, the state’s rich tourism assets, ecological resources and cultural diversity make it an attractive destination for leisure, business and investment.
The Governor further stated that the visit by the Foreign Defence Advisers and Defence Attachés would deepen international cooperation while showcasing Cross River’s enormous opportunities in tourism, agriculture, solid minerals and other strategic sectors. He commended the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) for choosing Cross River for the tour and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace, security and policies that promote inclusive development.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Parker Undiandeye, represented by the Director of Foreign Liaison, Defence Intelligence Agency, Major General Ojogbane Adegbe, said the tour would provide the visiting diplomats and military representatives with firsthand knowledge of Nigeria’s geography, culture, security environment and development priorities, thereby strengthening mutual understanding and future collaboration with the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He explained that the geographical and cultural tour was designed to expose the visiting delegation to Nigeria’s breathtaking natural attractions, rich cultural heritage and renowned hospitality, while fostering stronger diplomatic and military relationships with the country.
Major General Adegbe commended the Otu administration for sustaining peace and security in Cross River State and for prioritising tourism development and critical infrastructure, which continue to enhance the state’s appeal as a destination for investment and leisure.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, applauded the Defence Intelligence Agency for selecting Cross River as one of the destinations for the tour. He encouraged the delegates to take advantage of the state’s unique tourism attractions, rich cultural heritage and vast investment opportunities while enjoying the warmth and hospitality for which Cross River is renowned.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Obudu Ranch Resort, Mr. Sunday Michael, described the visit as a significant milestone in promoting Cross River’s tourism potential and strengthening international goodwill. He noted that the presence of the Defence Intelligence Agency, Foreign Defence Advisers and Defence Attachés reflected growing confidence in the state’s peaceful environment, hospitality and commitment to sustainable development.
Michael described the Obudu Ranch Resort as a symbol of Cross River’s tourism excellence and expressed confidence that the visit would foster stronger international partnerships, attract greater investment and provide the delegates with a deeper appreciation of the state’s breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture and immense economic potential.
The visit featured a guided tour of the Obudu Ranch Resort led by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, alongside the Special Adviser on Obudu Ranch Resort, Mr. Sunday Michael, and the Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye. Other highlights included colourful cultural performances, a bonfire ceremony and the presentation of souvenirs to the visiting delegates.
